we kick a scouts trash!

On Thursday some of the laurels in our ward and some leaders ( 4 girls 5 leaders) headed down to Coyote gulch which is a slot canyon on the north west side of lake Powell, i believe. It's pretty interesting because usually young women don't go on adventurous back packing trips. I was really excited to see how some of the girls did. Since i have a fracture in my back i couldn't carry very much down so i felt bad cuz my dad's pack was super heavy with half of my stuff.

we drove down and got there at about 1:30 and started down the canyon.

this is us before you start heading down into the canyon. See the sand behind us? yes it sucks! well not going down but going back up.

we made it to camp really fast and ate a little dinner before heading up to an arch that i cant remember the name of.what an amazing view eh?! supposedly the arch is so big that a plane has flown through it before! it was pretty sweet.
the next day we hiked up the canyon and found some sweet action water falls. it was way nice cuz you could pretty much walk bare foot all the way up the canyon.
after about a mile we ran into some people that knew about a swim hole. we figured it would just be a little pool you could take a little dip in but when we got there we found out other wise! It was huge! and about twenty feet deep.

I saw a cliff and of course was wondering if there was any way to get on top of it because it would be perfect for cliff jumping. someone had carved some steps out of the rock but they stopped half way up so the rest of the way you had to use the friction of your shoes to move up the rock. I'm not going to lie, it was pretty darn scary but i was bound and determined. My dad and i made it up the cliff and started getting ready to jump off. for some reason i had a lot of confidence and could jump right off the ledge but dad had a bit of trouble. He took almost ten minutes before he could finally jump of the cliff which is very unusual for my dad.

on the hike out from the swimming hole the trail was covered in poison ivy. I tried my very hardest not to brush up against it but i guess i didn't do a good job because now my leg is itchy and swollen and red and ouchy. no fun.

that evening we had to hike back out of the canyon. From previous hiking experiences in sand, my family has found out that when you step in someone Else's foot steps it is a lot easier for you and the people following. We decided to try it, so my Dad led the way up the sand hill of death. It actually turn out to not be as horrible as it could have been. Turns out it our theory really does work:)

That night we set up camp and spent hours looking at the stars. It became kind of a competition on who could see the most shooting stars. I'm proud to say that i didn't lose! but i didn't really win either. but i found and made up lots of constellations.

We hiked out the rest of the way out and went to the crack canyons Spooky and Peekaboo! some of my fav crack canyons. Most of the girls and leaders had never been in a crack canyon so i think it was a really good experience for them all. they all sounded like they were having fun. (i forgot my camera on these hikes).

on our way down Spooky we ran into a snake. I cant remember the name of it but i know it was a poisonous snake. It was only a baby and it was more scared of us then we where him but still it was pretty nerve racking when it started slithering in our direction.

Over all it was a very amazing trip! My dad and i said that we should take the bishop on more of our hiking trips because everything ran so smoothly:)
