Goblin Valley Day 2

Once out of all the protective layers of my sleeping bags all I could do to keep warm was walk around in the sun. We still had a few hours before we were supposed to meet Ashley and Ryan and the trail head of Little Wild Horse so we explored a lot, and Indy LOVED it!

Indy would run up and down the road again and again and again.

Our camp site. Wild camping is fun because you have no neighbors so YOU don't have to worry about being noisy, you don't have to worry about THEM being noisy, any you can get changed anywhere and no one will see you :)

This trip was Andrew's first time going to Goblin Valley so he wanted to take pictures of every cool rock formation. I eventually had to tell him that we would be seeing PLENTY more later.

After breakfast we met up with Ash and Ry at the trail head of our first adventure. Little Wild Horse is a very popular slot for many reasons. 1- No technical rappels 2- Easy hike and 3- Rewarding slots.

Our first attempt at the hike was unsuccessful as Malcolm really didn't like being in the hiking back pack we had brought for him. Try number two was much better with Malcolm in a different sling and well fed.

Between the pregnant lady and the baby the hiking was slow which i personally didn't mind. Many times you get so excited to see what's around the next corner that you forget to slow down at look at the little stuff.

Lunch Break

Indy didn't like the water much and my back didn't like the pressure from bridging so we turned around and waited for the rest at the beginning of the narrows.

Can't tell you much about this picture, it was beyond the point that I hiked. Pretty though.

It was a really great slot for anyone but especially for beginners and young kids. Since the narrow part comes up pretty quick the kids ,or inexperienced hikers, don't get too tired before the good part comes up. As well since there are no rappels you can go up as far as you want and turn around.

Next was The Valley of Goblins! Many of you may recognize it from the movie Galaxy Quest.

"It's a rock, it doesn't have any vulnerable parts!!"

Malcolm loved it, thought the rock formations were really interesting, you can see it in his face.

Indy liked it, till he got stuck.

None of the family pictures we took of Ryan and Ashley turned out really great. Sorry guys! I'm sure Ash got some good ones so hopefully she'll post them for us.

We were mostly really pooped from our hike and since I can't exactly go running around and jumping off rocks these days, our activity in the valley was fairly limited.

After the valley we went into Hanksville and hung out at the hotel for a bit while Malcolm rested up, or so that's what we had planned. He ended up not wanting to sleep and since we were all hungry we went to the only burger place in town and stuffed ourselves silly. Then back to camp for Andrew and I for a warm fire and sleep.

Andrew had fun playing around with the camera. He wished we had brought a better tripod so the pictures weren't so fuzzy.
